Gypsyfingers are an ethereal folk-rock band founded by Victoria and Luke Oldfield (son of Mike Oldfield). Victoria’s classical training and love of dance music fuses with Luke’s folk and rock background to create a fresh sound of their own lauded by R2 Magazine as “trip-hop and folk-influenced ethereal pop that delightfully doesn’t fit into any existing musical pigeonhole”.
Gypsyfingers recorded their debut album, ‘Circus Life’, in typically unconventional fashion at Tilehouse Studios, a studio built for Luke’s father Mike Oldfield which specialises in vintage recording equipment including analogue tape machines. Victoria and Luke played most of the instruments themselves. The idea behind the album was to be unrestrained and experiment with arrangements, instruments and different styles in order to create interesting and fresh sounding recordings. As there was no record label involved in the funding of the album GypsyFingers were able to be creative and find their own sound. The songs on the album explore various aspects of modern life. The album title ‘Circus Life’ is taken from the lyrics of ‘Circus Elephant’ – “My circus life is just for you”. The album was hailed for its originality on release in 2014.
After the release of their debut album Gypsyfingers were invited to open for James Blunt in Warsaw, which led to a three-week tour of Poland in 2015. Having won plaudits from the press for their support slot on the Tubular Bells For Two tour in 2017, and following fantastic performances at Isle of Wight Festival and at Hyde Park BST opening for Van Morrison and Michael Bublé this summer, the band will be touring the UK in November to promote the release of their second studio album. Gypsyfingers perform live as a multi-instrumental quartet with Victoria on piano, French horn, guitars and vocals, Luke on guitars and vocals playing live shows described as “fully immersive and entertaining; seductive and beautiful in equal measure” (Mumble Music, Edinburgh Queens Hall, 1st Oct 2017)
ALBUM REVIEWS:
“GypsyFingers’ sound has as its cornerstone folk music, fusing this traditional foundation with elements of Romani, spoken word, the baroque and pop. It moves swiftly along a continuum that loosely connects the late 1960’s folk pioneers Pentangle with the more modern ambition of a Beth Orton or Devendra Banhart.” (GodIsInTheTV)
“As inventive as anything you’ll hear any time soon.” (R2 Magazine)
“There have been many albums that have surprised this weary set of ears this year, but none that have pushed boundaries while still creating some of the most beautiful and inspiring music in the way that ‘Circus Life’ has. There really isn’t a dull moment here. There is so much to discover and appreciate and with each listen the album opens up to reveal more of its beauty; it really is stunning.” (Penny Black Music)

PLEASE NOTE THE VENUE RELIES ON THE INCOME FROM DINING TO ENSURE WE CAN BOOK ALL THE GREAT ACTS PERFORMING.
Income from the provision of pizzas is very important to the venue and if you have booked a table it is a requirement that all people sat at tables order food - a salad alternative is available to pizzas. Please do ensure that all individuals will be ordering on your table - if this is not the case please cancel your table so others who are looking to dine can do so. Our apologies to raise this but recently we have had many tables (some very large) where less than 50% of those sat at tables have ordered food. Financially this is a real problem to the sustainability of the venue.
- All seating at tables must purchase a pizza - so please do not book a table if everyone is not eating.
- Please ensure that you arrive 10 minutes before the time slot allocated to order your pizzas prior to your booking time.
- Tables not seated within 15 minutes of the allocated time may be lost and allocated to other audience members wishing to order pizzas.
- If you wish to book a table for 6 or more please email info@acapela.co.uk
Please note that all of our pizzas are made fresh to order and cooked in an authentic wood-fired oven. It may take up to 45 minutes to be served during busy periods.
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BOOK A TABLE YOU CAN STILL ORDER PIZZAS ON THE NIGHT (USUALLY ON BUSY NIGHTS NO LATER THAN 7.15PM) AND WE WILL SERVE THEM TO YOU WHEREVER YOU ARE SAT IN THE VENUE - IN A PIZZA BOX.
