Gwilym Bowen Rhys

Gwilym Bowen Rhys has established himself as a worthy ambassador for Welsh language and song both at home in Wales and across the world, confirmed by his nomination for the Folk Singer of the Year Award in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and winning the Best Solo Artist Award in the Welsh Folk Awards.

Performing from Aberystwyth to Argentina, he has represented Wales and the Welsh language in enthralling performances including The British Embassy in Paris and The National Eisteddfod, and with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Hailing from the village of Bethel at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in North West Wales, Gwilym has been singing in his native Welsh language since he can remember, giving him a deep connection with the traditional songs and music of his native land and a love of sharing his music with the local communities of this Welsh-speaking region.

Bringing to life ancient Welsh lyrics and melodies, his music is made unique by his own contemporary musical approach. His first album ‘O Groth y Ddaear’ (From The Womb Of The Earth) was released in 2016 and was shortlisted for Best Welsh Language Album of The Year at the National Eisteddfod, helping to establish him as a new and vital voice for the music of Wales.

His latest album ‘Detholiad o Hen Faledi II’ (A selection of Old Welsh Ballads II) was released in March ’22. It is the second in an album series that focuses on old Welsh ballads and is described by From The Margins as, ‘probably the most complete, bewitching folk album you will hear all year’.

Mae Gwilym Bowen Rhys wedi sefydlu ei hun fel llysgennad teilwng dros y Gymraeg a chanu, gartref yng Nghymru ac ar draws y byd hefyd. Cafodd hyn ei gadarnhau gan ei enwebiad ar gyfer Gwobr Canwr Gwerin y Flwyddyn yng Ngwobrau Gwerin BBC Radio 2 a thrwy ennill Gwobr yr Artist Unigol Gorau yng Ngwobrau Gwerin Cymru.

Gan berfformio o Aberystwyth i’r Ariannin, mae wedi cynrychioli Cymru a’r Gymraeg mewn perfformiadau cyfareddol yn Llysgenhadaeth Prydain ym Mharis a’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, a gyda Cherddorfa Genedlaethol Gymreig y BBC.

Ac yntau’n hanu o bentref Bethel ar odre’r Wyddfa yng Ngogledd Orllewin Cymru, mae Gwilym wedi bod yn canu yn Gymraeg, ei iaith frodorol, ers iddo gofio, gan roi iddo gysylltiad dwfn â chaneuon a cherddoriaeth draddodiadol ei fro enedigol a chariad at rannu ei gerddoriaeth gyda chymunedau lleol yr ardal Gymraeg hon.

Mae ei gerddoriaeth, sy’n dod â geiriau ac alawon Cymraeg hynafol yn fyw, yn unigryw o ganlyniad i’w ddull cerddorol cyfoes ei hun. Rhyddhawyd ei albwm cyntaf ‘O Groth y Ddaear’ yn 2016 a chyrhaeddodd restr fer Albwm Gorau’r Flwyddyn yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, gan helpu i’w sefydlu fel llais newydd a hanfodol ar gyfer cerddoriaeth o Gymru.

Rhyddhawyd ei bedwerydd albwm, a’r diweddaraf, ‘Detholiad o Hen Faledi II’ ym mis Mawrth ’22. Dyma’r ail mewn cyfres o albymau sy’n canolbwyntio ar hen faledi Cymraeg ac mae’n cael ei disgrifio gan From The Margins fel, ‘probably the most complete, bewitching folk album you will hear all year’.

Book a table for pre-concert dining

Acapela Studio provides pre-concert dining between 6.00pm and 7.30pm from our pizza oven. To view the current menu visit here.

Please purchase your concert tickets first before booking a table. We will not accept any table bookings that do not have a corresponding ticket purchase.

Then return to the event page to book your table, by selecting the date of your event, number of diners and time you require table. The times shown are the only vacancies left.  Please complete your email and phone number as this is required to ensure your table is allocated. You will receive confirmation of your booking by email and text.

If on the date you have chosen no tables are available - no times will be shown and the booking system will revert you back to todays date - PLEASE ENSURE YOU BOOK THE CORRECT DATE!

PLEASE NOTE THE VENUE RELIES ON THE INCOME FROM DINING TO ENSURE WE CAN BOOK ALL THE GREAT ACTS PERFORMING.

Income from the provision of pizzas is very important to the venue and if you have booked a table it is a requirement that all people sat at tables order food - a salad alternative is available to pizzas. Please do ensure that all individuals will be ordering on your table - if  this is not the case please cancel your table so others who are looking to dine can do so. Our apologies to raise this but recently we have had many tables (some very large) where less than 50% of those sat at tables have ordered food. Financially this is a real problem to the sustainability of the venue.

  • All seating at tables must purchase a pizza - so please do not book a table if everyone is not eating.
  • Please ensure that you arrive 10 minutes before the time slot allocated to order your pizzas prior to your booking time.
  • Tables not seated within 15 minutes of the allocated time may be lost and allocated to other audience members wishing to order pizzas.
  • If you wish to book a table for 6 or more please email info@acapela.co.uk

Please note that all of our pizzas are made fresh to order. It may take up to 45 minutes to be served during busy periods.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BOOK A TABLE YOU CAN STILL ORDER PIZZAS ON THE NIGHT (USUALLY ON BUSY NIGHTS NO LATER THAN  7.15PM) AND WE WILL SERVE THEM TO YOU WHEREVER YOU ARE SAT IN THE VENUE - IN A PIZZA BOX.
