Michael Buerk – brilliant journalist, news reader, celebrity and speaker!

REVIEW – “An Evening with Michael Buerk”

The audience who gathered for “An Evening with Michael Buerk” was not disappointed as Michael gave a wonderful, funny and humorous account of his life as one of the UK’s leading journalists.

Most of the audience I suspect, were not quite sure what to expect when Michael was introduced on stage by BBC Wales news reporter Nick Palit, but the audience was soon won over by his relaxed presenting style. Straight from the start he had the audience on side as his very funny tales of his life in the media were told as if he was a full time comedian! It wasn’t all fun and laughter, however as Michael also gave some very moving and graphic accounts of his time working across the globe including war zones and countries struck by famine, his news story that shook the world in 1984 when he reported on the Ethiopian famine.

After speaking for well over an hour ( it did not seem like it !) Michael came back after the interval and took questions from the audience compered by Nick Palit. From I’m a celebrity, news reading to reporting as a foreign correspondent the questions again allowed the audience an opportunity to learn more about his fascinating experiences. Without doubt an extraordinary life has been lived by Michael which he recounted in a modest but enthusiastic way – commenting that he would do it all again (his life as a foreign correspondent) but not the news reading!

A lovely evening and a lovely man, who after the event was over, was very happy to mix with everyone in attendance for a selfie or two.

Famous faces at the recording studio in Cardiff!

Big names come to Acapela Studios Pentyrch, Cardiff to record!

Whilst the many great musicians who perform at concerts at Acapela are very visible to all, what many will not realise is that the studio is also regularly hosting many famous musicians to Pentyrch to take advantage of the excellent acoustics that the studio has to offer.

In the last month alone, Acapela Studios has seen Sir Bryn Terfel and Paul Potts record at the venue (not together!) as they both looked to complete their latest recording projects in the wonderful quiet ambience of the chapel.

The studio often has many world class musicians recording at the venue – Sir Karl Jenkins the acclaimed Welsh composer last year recorded part of his Cantata Memoria commerorating the Aberfan disaster with a 100 strong choir at the studio.

So keep a close watch as you walk around the streets of Pentyrch…you never know who you may bump into!

Acapela Studios launches new website

The best small music venue in Wales launches new website.

The last 2 years has seen many new developments at Acapela Studios as we have transformed the interior, exterior and concert schedule to ensure that it can be considered as the leading small music venue in Wales.

Changes to the interior of the building initially saw the studio moved upstairs allowing the bar area to be extended and of course the introduction of a wood burning pizza oven and long awaited new toilet facilities.  Changes to the seating in the main hall has ensured that the venue is a relaxing and intimate performance space for both the artists and audience.

Outside the building we are continuing to improve the paths and graveyard so that the venue can be enjoyed by all.

We felt that it was time that our website was also given a makeover so that visitors and potential new audience members could easily gain information on concerts and learn a little about the very many interesting other activities that the studio is working on. With over 100 events every year now being held at the venue and many famous faces recording at the studio, there is always a story to tell!

The new website provides details on all concerts held at the venue including a video of each artist to help you decide who to come and see!

The studio is also an important part of the venue activity and the new website provides details for prospective studio clients (both famous and musicians starting out) of what services are on offer.

We hope you enjoy the new website.
