Memory No.8 – Toyah

Some of our favourite Acapela memories

We cannot bring you new music at present but we thought we would share with you some of the bands and artists who have graced the Acapela stage in the last few years……

MEMORY N0.8 – Toyah

4 years ago Acapela had a crazy idea that we would be able to invite world famous musicians to perform at the venue to a live audience!

The first major artist we contacted was Toyah…would she and other major names be attracted to perform in an old converted welsh chapel, on the top of a hill, miles from anywhere …we were just not sure!

We remember that first Toyah concert with great fondness – the sell out crowd turned up early, with the queue waiting to get in to the venue going down the street! The atmosphere before Toyah came on stage was electric and when she eventually came on stage the crowd could still not believe it was actually her!

Of course the venue has gone on in the last 4 years to achieve major awards and attract many famous names.

We will always be grateful to Toyah for that first night – as it gave us the encouragement to build the schedule to include so many superb musicians and exciting new bands. Every year since, Toyah has graced the Acapela stage and has never failed to get the same reaction from the sell out crowds.

TOYAH WILLCOX – OFFICIALLY AN ACAPELA LEGEND!

Memory No.7 – Glenn Tilbrook

Some of our favourite Acapela memories

We cannot bring you new music at present but we thought we would share with you some of the bands and artists who have graced the Acapela stage in the last few years……

MEMORY N0.7 – Glenn Tilbrook

The Squeeze superstar visited Acapela in 2018 and provided us with a humorus and wonderful trip down memory lane!

With many of the great Squeeze songs brought to life with wonderful banter it was great to see a legendary singer/songwriter perform.

The highlight for our programme director was being invited into Glenn’s mammoth tour bus just before the concert started to watch with him the International Space Station he was tracking on his TV screen (Glenn’s a space fanatic!) and then watching the night sky outside Acapela when it went over – right at the time he said it would!

And if you wondered why he was slightly late going on stage that evening – that’s the reason why! – Blame it on the timing of the International Space Station – NOT THE PIZZAS!

CONCERT ALERT – WATCH OUT FOR GLENN’S RETURN TO ACAPELA – TO BE ANNOUNCED VERY SOON

Memory No.6 – TOM ROBINSON

Some of our favourite Acapela memories

We cannot bring you new music at present but we thought we would share with you some of the bands and artists who have graced the Acapela stage in the last few years……

MEMORY N0.6 – TOM ROBINSON

We had been trying to convince Tom to come and play at Acapela for several years and last year we finally  got lucky as Tom’s agent was looking for an intimate venue for Tom to play before a major festival the following day.

Well if you were there you know that Tom played a brilliant set – mainly solo – which saw a rapturous standing ovation. Playing all his hits – Listen to the Radio, 2,4,6,8 Motorway, War Baby and many more it was great to see this iconic music maestro in action!

Afterwards Tom told us how much he loved his time at Acapela and said it was a shame that we only did acoustic sets! After explaining we do full bands as well he asked whether he could come back again with his band!

Well we had to think (for the total of about 2 seconds) and said ABSOLUTELY YES!
The result is of course TOM is playing with his band in 2021 for TWO NIGHTS!

MEMORY N0.5 – Elephant Sessions

Some of our favourite Acapela memories

We cannot bring you new music at present but we thought we would share with you some of the bands and artists who have graced the Acapela stage in the last few years……

MEMORY N0.5 – Elephant Sessions

We have seen many great nights from Scottish bands including Skerryvore (look out for  news on their next visit very soon!) , Peatbog Faeries, Fara and Talisk  and they have all been amazing nights.

In December The Elephant Sessions stormed the venue with a wonderful energetic performance which did have everyone on their feet!

Wonderful happy music – check out the video below shot from behind the band!
